With the increasing development of advanced manufacturing technology, such asConcurrent Engineering, Agile Manufacturing and Virtual Design, modernmanufacturing enterprises have higher requirements on CAD/CAPP system.Intelligence, integration and network will be a developed trend of CAD/CAPP. As an import part in mechanically-driven, gears are attached importance onintelligent & integrative design and manufacture. This article mainly research on howto increase the function of CAD/CAPP system by inventing the new models on theexisting CAD/CAM system, reducing unnecessary man-machine intercourse, andimproving the ability of intelligent design on some occasion. At the same time, thisarticle also studys on how to integrate original isolated CAD and CAPP systems byway of feature technology. Then the information can be easily shared and accessed.Through the deep research on previous problems, we create an object-orientedintegrated CAD/CAPP system for gear parts. This system is based on RDBMS, facedwith the process of product design, and supported by expert knowledge. By the meansof importing the models, analysis, simulating and computing, it can provide efficientdesign tool, applied in gear design,model reusing,and techniques design forengineering design staffs. Application of this system, resolves the problems of automatic parameter design,technics design, and the problem of integration between CAD and CAPP. It alsoreduces repeating work of design staffs, shortens the producing periods of products,and improves economic benefit of enterprises.
