This paper presents the application of an ant-colony algorithm for the optimal design of radical distribution systems. In order to make rdical distrbution networks from a non-radical primary networks, according to the comparability of the optimal design and the problem of minimum power tree drawing, I denote the outcome by using the minimum tree , power supply is the root this minimum tree. The result of the optimal design is not necessary to be verified for the radiancy and connectivity for the trait of the positive feedback of the ant-colony algorithm. This improves the efficiency of algorithm greatly. Recurring to the feasibility and advantage of the GIS, by using excellent GIS software "MapInfo" , and exatiating process of obtainer of the grid image and fouding of the vector drawing. By using "MapBasic" , I compiled 4 modules : programming interface module, optimal design module, optimal analyse module, query and staristic module. Each of the modules will carry out the relavant function, and the functions of these modules can transfer each other. Algorithm of these modules is ant-colony algorithm. This will make the process of optimal design intuitionistic and disdinct by displaying idiographic location of the facility and circuitry and displaying attributry data of the image in the browse windows and displaying the result of the optimal design in the image. This software of the optimal design not only has easy maneuverability and distinction, but also realize the functionextendibility by using link of genus modules.
