Aiming at user's requirements and the tendency of power system, the fault recording information processing system is researched in detail. According to different standards in recording file format, IEEE Standard Common Format for Transient Data Exchange(COMTRADE) for Power System is analyzed in this paper. This paper studies and implements recording data specification based on IEEE COMTRADE 1999. In view of shortcoming of analysis approach, various fault analysis methods are researched in this paper in detail. Symmetrical components and harmonic analysis are realized. A simple and reliable algorithm of fault detection and phase selection is put forward. This paper also presents a new fault location algorithm based on main frequency. The method uses distributed parameters with on-line parameter calculation of transmission line. And simulation is made to verify this algorithm. In the end, the entire fault recording information processing system is designed and implemented. The realized system is commissioned in a power corporation, and its operation effects are all right.
