Fault recording data are the important proof for system fault analysis. Fault recording system is the main equipment for recording transient process of power system. With the development of power system, the requirement for fault recorder is becoming more and more strict. This paper presents a kind of design of an integrated fault recorder based on industrial controlling computer.On the basis of studying the different power transmission line fault recorder home and abroad, the whole software and hardware design of a new power transmission line fault recorder is proposed. According to the features of fault recorder data storing, the software function of the data sampling device is designed, the data transmission hardware circuit between the data sampling device and the data analyzing system is also designed, the main software function of sampling data analyzing system is introduced.Traditional methods of fault phase selecting and fault location are summarized, a new fault selecting scheme for microcomputer device using instantaneous current value is presented according to the features of microcomputer device.
