The starling of the diesel engine of locomotive is driven by the storage battery-powered motor. But the parameters of storage batteries are easily affected by surroundings. For example, the resistance would rise, the terminal voltage and the capacity of the storage batteries would recede. As a result, the diesel engine of locomotive wouldn't be started successfully. Engineers are looking for the way to increase the success rate of the starting of the diesel engine and the way to prolong the life of the storage batteries.As the development of science, the super capacitor is produced. This new kind of electronic component has over ten times of power density and more than a hundred limes of charge and discharge velocity than storage batteries. In this thesis, super capacitor is used to improve the performance of starling of railway diesel.The starting process of the diesel with and without super capacitor is discussed in this thesis. The super capacitor preserved much energy after starting, so we use DC/DC eonvertor to increase the output voltage so that to make best use of the energy restored in the super capacitor. In the course of study, we found a powerful tool to solve the similar problem, the model of Simpowersystems in Simulink toolbox.Take DF4 locomotive for example, through studying of the principle and the process of starting of the diesel, the function of super capacitor in the starting system, the principle of the DC/DC eonvertor and the simulation model in matalab, we concluded as follows.Firstly, storage batteries can be protected effectively, and the successful rate of starting can be improved greatly after using super capacitor. Secondly, the best capacitance of the capacitor in starting system is 60F. After using it, the capacitance of storage batteries can be reduced by 40%. Thirdly, after using DC/DC eonvertor, the discharged efficiency of super capacitor grows from 65% to 94%, and we make better use of the super capacitor. The lowest terminal...
