China is a country of a vast territory, in which there is a great demand for freightage. According to the tenth five-year plan and a long-term development plan, the 60% of freight traffic volume throughout the country are such mass freight as coal, ore and food supplies. Take Da-Qin railway line for instance, the volume of transport are about one hundred million tons at present and have been increasing by 10% annually, which will reach two hundred million in 2008.The transportation of heavy haul freight train will be an important developing direction of the railway freight in the future. Ministry of railway has already made the transportation of the heavy haul freight train of twenty-thousand tons as a policy Heavy haul means that the formation of will be longer than that of normal train and the disadvantages of traditional automatic air brake are more serious. Under the conditions, the improving of locomotive braking system of the long heavy haul freight train based on computer controlling has been becoming an important and imminent task in the region of train brake in the future.The research on new generation locomotive braking system is the science and technology development item of the railway ministry. Computer controlled automatic air brake is used for the braking system, which can realize electrically and pneumatically blended braking. Microcomputer Brake Control Unit (MBCU) is the key part of the brake, which is even the core of the brake in a sense.In this thesis, MBCU is researched under financial assistance of the item. The types and features of computer controlled locomotive brake in the world are introduced in detail in this thesis. The structures and functions of MBCU are analyzed. Based on above analyses, the scheme of MBCU is proposed, in which the highly integrated TMS320LF2407A chip produced by TI Corporation is used as CPU.
