Tourism in the rural areas, as a burgeoning tourist form, is in the ascendant in China. Discussions are made from the status quo along with the developing situation of rural tourism in both China and foreign countries. Meanwhile, two important theories on the inevitability of rural tourism and its development arc expounded to reveal their concrete influence and functions on rural tourism. In addition, market demands, product types and developing models of rural tourism are also studied with the application of market theories. These results can be operated easily and thus is significant as guidance in practical work.Malan Village, located in Zhaitang Town in Mentougou District in Beijing, is endowed with rich natural and humanity resources. In order to have sustainable development, to promote local tourism, and to rationally exploit and develop its characteristics different from sight-seeing and agricultural tourism nearby, Malan Scenic Spot is designed to be a multifunctional one concentrated on revolutionary recalling, recreation and scientific education, directed with related theories, and making use of the existing resources such as anti-Japanese Base and other revolutionary memorials like memorial site of Malan-Ji-Re-Cha advancing army's headquarters, Zhaitang Martyrs' monument and cemetery, along with the newly-built multifunctional square. It is highlighted on the theme of red and ecological tourism. The monumental and recalling section is put into a very significant position in this layout. It is designed into an educational base for Chinese people to remember the revolution. Thus, the theme "Red" is highlighted making full use of the local natural and humanity resources, following the principle of "human first" when working out overall layout, considering different functions of different sections and building some architectural featurettes. The principal monument is designed to be grandeur. Tourists, when visit here, will place themselves in this deep red, in nature, enjoy recreation and knowledge, and combine themselves perfectly with nature. Malan Ditch, which links the Malan Village and the government of Zhaitang Town, is the main region in this scenic spot layout. It covers 360,000 square meters and is divided into five sections, namely, entrance and mark section, transitional section, recalling section, comprehensive section and recreation section. There are both near-term construction and perspective layout made for the scenic spot. The investment is imputed to be 12.4188million yuan.
