High voltage pulse power technology is widely applied not only in the traditional fields such as nuclear physics ,electron beam,accelerator,but also in the new research fields such as laser,discharge theory,oil exploitation,plasma technique,micro-electronics machining technique, electromagnetism bomb,biology and medicine engineering of engineering. The switching technology is the key problem of high voltage pulse power supply's making small-size and high working frequency. Although fast developing modern semiconductor technology makes it possible to manufacture higher voltage and larger current power devices, still doesn't it accommodate engineering requirement in some cases. And the serial use of devices provides a shortcut to improve working voltage of the application. There are many developed techniques in serial uses of Thyristor and GTO, but as to controllable device——IGBT,there are not a universal and simple method in the applications. IGBT's switch speed is faster and the synchronization between IGBT's driver signals make serial use of IGBT very difficult. In the released publications, there are some methods with lower reliability due to complex circuit and some others with limitation in abroad application due to its expensive device. A 'synchronization transformer'method presented in the thesis caters simple circuit, high reliability, low cost and good performance. In the beginning of the thesis, some basic principles of IGBT's serial connection are analyzed and the drawbacks of some method are pointed out. The device selection, transformer design, the design of experimental circuit as well as simulation and test result of synchronization performance of transformer are discussed in the following chapters. The last section of the thesis introduces a high voltage pulse power supply using the IGBT serial technology presented in the thesis, the test result indicate that the performance of the high voltage pulse power supply can well satisfy the designing specifications.
