The local three-dimension emulation of the connection area between the arch rib in the side and the rigid tie bar of Guangzhou Xinguang bridge is presented and the test of a large proportion of 1:3.2 model is done in this paper. Different working situations in the course of the construction and the operation are presented in the experiment. The distribution rule of the stress in the connection area is obtained in the most unfavorable working situation. And the stress distribution in the structure is obtained quantitatively. Thereby it can improve the conformation design further and provide the foundation for the project design and construction reasonably.This paper is divided into four chapters. Chapter I describes the application and development and the mechanics characteristic of the combined system of beam and Arch Bridge. It also describes the application situations of the relevant bridge type at present in China, then introduces the purpose of this paper. Chapter II analyses the interested part using the software ANSYS and gets the stress distribution in the area approximately. Thereby it can be used for guiding the model test. Chapter III mainly introduces the application and development of the model test technique and its relevant theories. It explains the design and fabricating of the model and the course of the experiment. Chapter IV analyzed and summed up the test datum and compared them with the results of the finite element. Then it gets the characteristics about the stress distribution of the connection area. The last chapter is the sum-up of this paper. And it puts forward some suggestions and points out some techniques that can be improved in the future.This paper adopts the method of the combination of theoretics and experiment. It guides the experiment by academic analysis. On the contrary, results of the experiment can verify the correctness of the theoretics. It has provided the foundation for the conformation design of the connection area between arch rib in the side and rigid tie bar of the Xinguang bridge and its conclusions can also provide references for the design of other same type bridges.
