The Complex Meaning Research On Commercial Pedestrian Street

As an important type of commercial spaces in modern cities, Commercial Pedestrian Street is one of the most striking public spaces, which is not only the integrity of walking activity and business, but also the center place for people to communicate and relax, still, is the window to represent city memory, express city spirit, and show off city economy. It is a prominent means for Commercial Pedestrian Street's planning and construction to perfect city function and shape city image.This dissertation perceives deeply problems occurred in planning and design during the current development of construction of Commercial Pedestrian Streets in China, especially many streets, when being constructed under the heavy pressure of economical benefits and commercial value, which causes them belittle ecology, culture and creation in real meaning. Still, the paper puts the validity and all sidedness of existing design and planning methods and theories into doubt.Through the investigation and "on-the-spot" survey on domestic commercial pedestrian streets, combining with the projects ,which author participated in personally, "Xingsha Commercial Pedestrian Street" and "Zhuzhou Commercial Pedestrian Street" , under the guide of "plot doctrine" put forward by the tutor, the author bravely suggests "plot doctrine" can be served as a kind of new methodology guiding the space forming of Commercial Pedestrian Streets.This paper explains entirely the relationship between "complex" and "plot", combined with Commercial Street's planning and design, basic conception and content of "plot doctrine", so as to summarize three basic models in "plot doctrine": historical plot, ecological plot, dreaming plot. On the other hand, the author puts forward that losing "plot" is the essence of glamour disappearance in Commercial Pedestrian Street, tracing to its source, the "plot' creation is the catalyst to emit the Commercial Pedestrian Streets' glamour. Meanwhile, the paper discusses five rational principles during the construction of "plot doctrine" in Commercial Pedestrian Street: humanism, public participation, material existence, behavior definition and cultural and social value view.The author hopes that this dissertation would offer not only a new method for the reappearance of Commercial Pedestrian Streets' glamour, but also offer valuable theoretical foundation for planning and design of Commercial Pedestrian Street in the future.
