Caking property is an important technological characteristic for coal. It is an main reference index for metallurgical coal. Caking property affects both volatile's distillation and coke's burn out. Caking property takes on obviously in reducing atmosphere. The effect of caking property is ignored commonly in existence indexes on ignition and burn out. Declination exists in these indexes. So analyzing effect of caking property to volatile's distillation and coke's burning will offer basis to perfect indexes on ignition and burn out.Four typical coal samples were selected. They all belong to bitumenite, and there is a wide range of caking property indexes from 0 to 54. Differences among pyrolysis curves of coal samples from thermogravimetric apparatus were compared, so did pyrolysis characteristic parameters. And then effects of caking property to volatile's distillation process was analyzed. Explanation was given on improvement effect of heating rate to caking property from essence of chemical reaction using pyrolysis kinetics.Surface characteristics of cokes from thermogravimetric apparatus and muffle burner were described. And differences among cokes' combustion characteristics were presented. Analysis on relationship between caking property and combustion characteristics parameters was finished. Coke's pore structure was measured in N2 adsorption apparatus. It is concluded that a certain extent caking property affects pore forming and then affects coke's combustion characteristics.
