As an important characteristic state parameter, the orbit of shaft centerline reflects the rotor's running condition intuitively and contains abundant information about rotatory machine fault. This paper introduces the current situation of shaft centerline orbit test, the principle of the test and analyzing method of the orbit. The paper also introduces the development history of virtual instrument—from traditional instrument based on hardware to virtual instrument and at last to current virtual instrument based on intelligent virtual control. It analyzes the features of virtual instruments based on controls and compares them with traditional hardware-based instruments. The virtual instrument based on intelligent virtual control is a completely new mode of the development of measuring instruments.First, the paper introduces the basic concept of virtual instrument based on intelligent virtual control in three parts, function endowing, test fusing and assembling as building blocks. And the paper introduces the principle of forming a intelligent virtual control and its design method, which includes the forming process from model elements of an non-intelligent virtual control to an intelligent virtual control. At last, the paper introduces the forming process of virtual instruments based on intelligent virtual controls in frame agreement integrated developing system, and the principle of forming virtual instrument based on intelligent virtual controls.The paper introduces the basic property of rotor vibration, the shape of the orbit in normal condition and the relation between faulty rotatory machine and its character of orbit. The paper research the signal processing method of the orbit, including the spectrum of the two rotor vibration signal, the purification of the orbit, the decompose and compose of the orbit and some characteristic value. Then the function modeling is studied. At last, the program is designed and interfaces of the functions are provided.Finally, a usable orbit of shaft centerline analyzer is assembled in VMIDS development system. The orbit of shaft centerline analyzer is designed as a whole through the composition of the hardware and the software development environment. The paper introduces the constitution elements of VMIDS development system from assembling field of instruments, function library of instruments and intelligent virtual controls. A completely usable intelligent orbit of shaft centerline analyzer is assembled through the process of control creating, property modifying and function endowing. Atlast, the paper gives an application example of orbit of shaft centerline analyzer based on intelligent virtual control.
