In china more than two thirds of territory is mountain; there are a lot of mountainous cities in the central and western regions. In current large-scale and high-spirited urban regeneration, for the sustainable development of residents'living environment, it's essential and urgent to research capacity control of urban regeneration project in mountainous city. As one sub-topic of the total subject-"urban planning and design critical control in mountainous city", this paper illustrates the capacity influence by city context in urban regeneration projects. Context elements will influence development capacity, because the form of new project should respect it's context to conformity local landscape, space order and protect city character, the limit in the field of forms will effect develop capacity. Accordingly urban design is the approach to definite development capacity from the aspect of context. From the research of urban context's influence to project morphology by urban design means, we can derive rationale development capacity. So this paper mostly deals with the study of urban design strategy relating to context which will influence capacity. The thesis includes six parts. First part (chapter one): exordium. Introduce the paper's origin, significance, study method, important concept and structure. Second part (chapter two): research on context theory. This part includes the development of context thought, important theory about context and the analysis of relationship between project and context. Third part (chapter three): the approach and principle to control capacity from the aspect of context. Point out urban design is the approach. Bring forward two principles: set city character and build order. Forth part (chapter four to eight): summaries multitude context element to five one: nature background, city skyline, urban texture, street and historical building. Analyze the character of each context element, design strategy relating to capacity. Fifth part (chapter nine): practice. Introduce one urban regeneration project which is controlled from the aspect of context. Sixth part (chapter ten): epilogue...
