With the development of high-tech, manufacturing industry has been come into a new field. As an important design method of product, the technology of digital mock-up has been widely applied to manufacturing field. In the process of product development making use of digital mock-up, assembly-oriented CAD modeling technology are very important. This paper introduces the concept and meaning of DMU for complex product and addresses the theory and methods of assembly modeling of a DMU for complex product according to its characteristics. A study of DFA (design for assembly) is presented. The running mode and the system of DFA are discussed. The content of assembly modeling is provided. Assembly relationships, assembly hierarchy and assembly restraints and assembly models'information are analyzed. The assembly modeling methods of bottom-up and top-down assembly design and that based on WAVE are put forward. On the basis of analyzing assembly modeling characteristics of DMU for complex product, the author analyzes functions of reference sets and the components'filter within advanced assembly techniques. Based on assembly modeling, the theory is analyzed and investigated deeply in panels'product design by Assembly-oriented CAD modeling technology. The assembly model of panels is indicated and the generalized flow of assembly modeling of panel product is put forward. The key technology of Assembly-oriented CAD modeling in panels'product design is analyzed. This paper introduces the concept and meaning of DMU for complex product, and the purpose of motion analysis before relations between position changing of components and matrix transform are analyzed. After the procedure creating a motion scenario is generalized, this paper analyses relation of DOF of joints and mechanism's GRUBLER, and then summarizes the generalized flow of optimizing design through motion analysis. With the project "The Construction of digital mock-up for a motorcycle of some All Terrain Vehicle (ATV)" supported by a motorcycle corporation, Ltd., the author constructs the DMU of the motorcycle with the application of the related theories and methods of modeling. This paper analyzes and verifies a digital mock-up of some four-wheeled motorcycle by applying techniques of motion analysis. Through the project, the author summarizes the experience of assembly modeling for DMU, and provides sound proof for the viewpoints in the thesis.
