Assembly occupies an important position in manufacturing. The assemblyprocess planning and optimization which is mainly based on manual work for pastlong time run through the whole course of production design manufacturing. Andthe evaluation and optimization which mainly depended on the experience is lackof ocular references.Virtual Manufacturing Technology continues to flourish in recent years. Vir-tual Assembly Technology which is an important part of VMT performs a very im-portant and realistic role in many fields. Facts proved that the assembly processplanning and optimization which is aided by VAT had greatly reduced the periodfrom production design to manufacturing. This article is a beneficial exploration ofthe VAT includes theory, key technology and actual application after tracking itsdomestic and international development.Based on the wing-body assembly work station, this article expounds theprocess of the application of VAT based on DELMIA and the data of the DigitalMock-Up in the fields of assembly process verification, evaluation and optimiza-tion. An Assembly Sequence Planning method combined with DPM is also intro-duced in this article. The assembly process verification and optimization modewhich from the view points of working-hours, space and ergonomic is also de-scribed. This article has adopted the method of secondary development to meet theindividual needs of the users in actual assembly process planning.The engineers could optimize the assembly process predictability by the veri-fication of VA simulation. It reduces the repeatedly modified time between plan-ning and manufacturing, improves the efficiency of the process planning, and en-hances the depth of design parallelism.
