Traditionally it's a complex progress to design a new type of mechanical product. Because it takes much time for the designer to realize the market product, the development of periodic time is always longer than the market lifespan, which results in manufacture loss. Thereby improving the design process is more important than modifying manufacture efficiency of product. With the increasing development of computer technology, it is possible to design the product by means of Virtual Prototyping. In this paper the design process model of the controllable soft start equipment were built by integrating several kinds of commercial software in deferent fields and the preliminary virtual product was completed.The design process model is the necessary platform to complete virtual product design. So at first according to the design scheme of the controllable soft start equipment the design process model was built by using the commercial software suchas ADAMS and Pro/Engineer and so on. The functional design, structural design and simulation analysis were finished sequentially by means of different software.The components libraries of soft start equipment should be built in the environment of Pro/Engineer. After completing every single component we can complete the entire 3D geometric model of soft start equipment by using the assembly model of Top to Bottom and Bottom to Top. Furthermore the global interference of the model was finished.Mechanism/pro, the special interface program to connect Pro/Engineer with ADAMS, can import 3D geometric model to ADAMS. And then the kinematics model by utilize of all kinds of constraints and force libraries were built. After solving the distortion problem the ADAMS can obtain the curves of angular velocity and angular acceleration of controlling motor, which complete kinematics analysis. By analysis the resisting force of belt conveyor we can obtain the curve of output-load properties of the controllable soft start equipment. As a result the dynamic force, the torque of every constrain, the ideal power of controlling motor, the ratio of main motor and controlling one were obtained.Goals of researching on this subject are not only to provide the new drive system for belt conveyor but also a try to offer anew way for developing new mining machinery by virtual prototyping in the future.
