The high strength bolted end plate connection is one type of the connections used widely in steel frame and the whole frame behavior is certainly concerned with the prying action and the thickness of the end plate. So the mechanism and calculating method of the prying action has attracted more attention of students as one of significant subjects. On the base of results existed, the finite element software ANSYS is used to study systematically the mechanism, the effecting factor and applied calculating method of prying action.Firstly, in this dissertation, the breakage patterns and the theory of some typical end plate connections are analyzed. Some study results domestic and alien about the prying action and end plane calculating method was researched. This dissertation also compared some examples according codes of several countries and regions.Secondly, several different beam-column connections were modeled by ANSYS as real condition. The relation between the stress and the strain in the connections under loads was systematically studied. The factors that influence the prying action have been discussed. The difference between several connections of the prying action and the end plate size is compared and analyzed.Finally, on the above results from ANSYS and reference presented, the method to design and construct economic and reasonable types of connections is proposed. On the analysis of much data from ANSYS, a practical formula to calculate the prying action is developed, which fits material-bolt joint of China.
