Landscape architecture development is based on cultural background and influenced by some aesthetic conceptions. The main purpose of this study is to research aesthetic conception in planting design. According to systematical analyses, we hope to have a more profound understanding of modern aesthetic conception, and to specifically guide the application of the theory and promote the developing of modern planting design, which is corresponded modern aesthetic flavor. The thesis will be dissected the following parts: First part makes a systematical retrospect of the history of plant disposition style in the Chinese classical garden. Second part, the author proposes natural aesthetic conception and ecological aesthetic conception in classical planting design. The most important part of the thesis is in the fourth chapter. After analyzing and summarizing, the author supposes it has communicant between ancient aesthetic conception and modern aesthetic conception. The character of modern aesthetic conception is comprehensive, integrated and historic continuous. With the need of the society, there are some new connotations of aesthetic conception. Based on the three parts above, the thesis main results about modern aesthetic conception may be summarized as followings: (1) Natural aesthetic conception about coexistence between man and nature. (2) Ecological aesthetic conception about equal and companionable relationship between man and nature. (3) Planting design does not highly concentrate nature, but really reappear nature. (4) Planting design does not only protect environment, but also use modern ecological technology to simulate nature ecological environment and build up a sustainable landscape.
