With the development of distribution automation system, higher demand is put forward in dealing with the monitoring and the recovery processing of distribution network. Feeder Terminal Unit is the fundamental control unit of Feeder Automation, it play an important role in the improving of quality and reliability of distribution network.Considering general Single Chip Microprocessor is inefficient in data processing and DSP can do it well, a design of Feeder Terminal Unit based on DSP is presented. The unit is Digital Signal Processor(DSP) based, it samples AC input (such as voltage, current and so on) , the sample data is processed by Fast Fourier Transform algorithm(FFT). From this method, FTU get information about electrical circuitry and carry out many function, such as remote signallying, remote measurement, remote control, alarm, display. In this thesis, design of hardware, software program and flow chart is accomplished. Simulation has been made to verify Fast Fourier Transform algorithm. Communications module of FTU is CAN-bus based. In the end of this thesis, methods are taken to enhance the reliability of FTU.
