In recent years, with the rapid development of power electronics technology and wide application of nonlinear electric equipment, harmonic sources increased quickly in power system. The secure and economic operation of power system and its users is greatly influenced. Therefore, the harmonic problem in the power system has been received great concern in the whole world. Measurements of current and voltage harmonics are essential for harmonic analysis in power system. In this paper, a new method based on the Prony analysis is applied to estimate the frequency, damping, phase, and magnitude of each component of the distortion waveforms. The simulation results show that the proposed Prony method is correct and efficient. When a power system being studied is complicated, it's difficult to assess the harmonic currents and voltages distribution throughout the transmission network only by harmonic measurements, thus harmonic simulation is required based on complete harmonic analysis model and data of the system. Harmonic analysis is very important to determine the harmonic level in the power system. It has become an important aspect of power system analysis and design. Harmonic analysis can be used to quantify the distortion in voltage and current waveforms in a power system and to determine the existence and mitigation of resonant conditions. On the basis of current harmonic research, harmonic analysis program is developed as a module of Power System Analysis Software Package (PSASP) in this paper, which includes modeling of power system components, frequency scan for system response, harmonic power flow for balanced system and for unbalanced system. The harmonic analysis program in this paper are illustrated on the IEEE 3-bus power system, the IEEE 14-bus power system which are released by IEEE Harmonics Working Group and the Taicang (China, Jiangsu) real power system which contains two harmonic sources. The simulation results show that the harmonic program in this paper is correct and feasible.
