As the development of the social economy and the residential fitment. People's requirement to the fitment of the residence is higher and higher. New type architectural material especially the chemosynthetic material is used widely. Top grade furnishings enter the room. Flavor, cosmetic, polish, pesticide and scour have been the people's necessaries. The designer of the architecture and heating ventilating and air conditioning take some extreme measure to save energy for the world energy crisis. Fitment and energy crisis make the concentration of the indoor VOCs higher and higher.The residence is the main living location, so the concentration of the VOCs in residential room has great effect to people's health. The paper chooses the residences as the study objects. Changsha, which has the character that is cool in winter and hot in summer, was tested in field. What's more, the filed measurement and questionnaire were put up in Chongqing, Shanghai, Beijing and Haerbin. In the paper, the measurement data are analyzed. The source of the VOCs and the main factors which effect the VOCs concentration, such as the change of the season, the length of the fitment, air-condition's run status and air flow manner, VOCs molecular weight and individual living habit etc, are made certain. It is certain that the economy, traffic, living level and landform have great effect to the VOCs concentration in different region trough comparing the data measured in different cities.VOCs have various kind and different concentration level and different effect degree to people's health, so putting forward appropriate VOCs value index to evaluate the IAQ is the keystone of the paper. In the paper an indoor VOCs compositive value method is put forward. VOCs level in Changsha residential room was valuated using this method.This paper brings forward the indoor VOCs concentration control means, such as source controlling, ventilation and indoor air purifying based on the trait of VOCs emitting and distributing.
