Having gone through more than 20 years' hardships, industrial design in China is gradually developing healthily and has made important contributions to the development of the national economy and improvement of people's living standards. Industrial design has raised higher requirements of industrial design education in China, then, how should industrial design education meet these requirements?This thesis discusses in details some existing problems of industrial design education in China with regards to discipline orientation, developing tendency and practical teaching from the educator's point of view. The thesis analyzes the effect these problems have on the students and the harm they cause to the development of industrial design in China. The thesis offers solutions as well as setting up a feasible mode. During the process of analysis, the thesis has synthesized relevant documents, sorted out a great number of materials and investigated finite sample size. Meanwhile, this thesis has analyzed and compared Chinese and foreign industrial design education from education concepts to education systems to draw lessons from them.Industrial design education in China starts from wholly accepting the advanced theories of industrial design from the western countries. It is surely helpful to the rapid development of industrial design education; however, the western theories are not totally suitable for the practical situations in China. Therefore, this thesis holds that it is the source of many existing problems of Chinese industrial design education. Besides, the development of industrial design education in China has only undergone a rather short period; therefore, many aspects are not systematic.Based on these problems, the thesis points out that industrial design education in China needs to be oriented toward the real situation of the country first. Then, it should establish its own theoretical system, increase input in research of industrial design education theory and combine design teaching with design practice.The thesis considers that industrial design education in China can meet the requirements of the development of industrial design only when it takes into consideration the social reality of China. Only then will appear Good Design which truly belongs to China.
