The cold air distribution system with ice storage can offer greater energy, load, and space savings compared to other systems due to smaller duct and fan size requirement. The terminal units are vital to the cold air distribution system. The cold air diffuser has been popular due to its simple structure, long throw, energy-and cost-savings. However, the current research and development about the cold air diffuser mostly bases on experimental data and experiential formulas. Unfortunately, the methods not only spend much time, manpower and material resources but also can't reflect the real things of air-conditioning room. So, we should seek a convenient and high efficient method to study the cold air diffuser. The paper built a model for cold air diffuser, and the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology was used for simulation. The following topics were studied in this paper:(1) Analysis of the airflow in the air-conditioning room, and to find out the equations of the parameters such as temperature, velocity and pressure. Discretization of the control equations such as mass conservation equation, momentum conservation equation and energy conservation equation, and solution the discretization equations by numerical methods.(2) Comparison of different k-ε turbulent models for indoor air isothermal flow and non-isothermal flow computations with the CFD commercial software "PHOENICS", and to find out a right model for simualtion.(3) Built a model for cold air difruser, and simulated the test room under the isothermal air distribution and cold air distribution, and validated the computed results by experiment.(4) Brought forward the method for cold air distribution design by CFD technology with an example. In the end, the paper gives the summary of the study.
