Electric Power Steering (EPS) reflects the new development of automotive industry. Based on the traditional steering system, EPS increased signal sensor, electronic control devices and power steering components. So, it's necessary to develop the CAD/CAE technology of EPS, realize fast design and analysis. This work, can offer a convenient modeling and analysis method for EPS designers, and can enhance EPS design quality and efficiency.This paper formulates the research of the EPS digital modeling, assembling and finite element analysis by using UG and ANSYS software. The main works and achievements of this research is as follows:1. This paper introduces the morden design technology of the automobie production. Focusing on the complexity and difficulty in design, it gave a parametric modeling method of EPS. This paper used UG software as 3D modeling platform, realized parametric design of helix and worm involute, and solved the problems in worm and gear parametric modeling progress, by using free curve and formuladefining technique of UG. It realized full degree restriction in the visual assembling progress, avoided the interference of EPS parts.2. This paper fulfilled the secondary development of EPS parts 3D modeling by GRIP language, on UG platform. It increased the interaction in the progess of modeling work, and realized parameter driving in the design of EPS.3. This paper choiced ANSYS software as CAE platform, gave a finite element type choicing project, fulfilled the structure analysis, mode analysis, fatigue analysis of EPS parts, got structurl analysis results of these parts in designing fhase.4. This paper used APDL (ANSYS Parametric Design Language), realized the secondary development in the progress of parametric modeling. Relay on the macro nesting, macro group and macro variable technology, combining with the customization of GUI mode, it fulfilled the parametric modeling of EPS parts. Users press button tools, input necessary parameters in dialog box, ANSYS could fulfill the modeling work automatically, realize the finite element analysis progress more convenient.5. This paper introduces an idea of using Visual C++ to pack CAD and CAE software. It researched on the key problems of CAD/CAE integrative technique, such as interface technology between ANSYS and C++, laid a foundation of EPS visual design platform.
