Hydraulic excavators are important construction engineering equipments integrated of mechanism, electric and hydraulic pressure system. Due to the uncertainties of fieldwork location, badness of operating conditions, and complication of construction machinery, their normal and safety state will effectively increase the equipment-utilized rate. The application of the fault diagnosis expert system for intelligent equipment will play the positive role. Intelligent fault diagnosis technique is one of the most challenging directions in the fault diagnosis field. Studying the construction equipment fault diagnosis method and developing fault diagnosis expert system for intelligent hydraulic excavators & analysis platform have important theoretical and practical significance, which is including fault knowledge inspection, diagnosis and management of hydraulic excavators, and is convenience to the field operation.Nowadays, all kinds of fault diagnosis expert systems have been applied in many fields, such as engine diagnosis expert system. The author is engaged on construction equipment maintaining and repairing job for several years.This paper is begun with a review of the theory in hydraulic excavators fault diagnosis and description of its development, and discussing the features of hydraulic excavators machine characteristic, and analyzing the general process fault reason. Secondly, based on the analysis and catalogue of all kinds of faults of hydraulic excavators. Organized diagnosis-trees were used in the knowledge database. The paper discussed its design principle and realized method, including knowledge acquisition and representation, data structure of rules, structure and management of knowledge, the optimization of diagnoses database on query, knowledge inspection, storage are also expounded. As the other key of expert system, reasoning mechanism such as design methods reasoning direction and werediscussed extensively too. Visual Basic 6.0 was selected as the development language of application program, and Microsoft Access was used as the database of the system. For the sake of the convenient of the usage, good user interface as designed. Lastly, the author gives interface of the export system, at the same time gives an example of diagnosing a real fault.
