With the rapid development of computer and communication, substation automation gradually becomes the one of critical factors that assures the security, reliability, quality, economical operation of power systems. At present, the communication protocols of devices coming from different venders aren't compatible. If devices coming from different venders want to be integrated in the same substation automation system, the communication protocols need to be transformed by the communication management unit. These would waste the money and time of venders and users, and the problem about interoperability would emergence. In order to provide interoperability to applications in substations, specify the information exchange, interoperate devices coming from different venders, decouple the application and communication, make substation automation systems to be open systems, the international standard about the communication networks and systems in substations is published by IEC. Under the background, in order to research the feasibility and the way of implementing substation automation systems model defined by IEC61850, this dissertation researches those aspects discussed below. At first, the architecture of models in IEC61850 is analyzed, including server, logical device, logical node, data, data-set and respective services, to explore the way and idea of modeling. Then, according the way and idea of modeling, the logical device, which is most representative in these models, is implemented utilizing object-oriented programmed language—Java 2. Through the research of IEC61850, the idea of requiring resource and providing resource is presented. Finally, consideration the architecture of interfaces presented in the research of requiring resource and providing resource, IEC61968, which is published recently, is research. Through the research, the following can be acquired: ①The technology of object-oriented modeling is adopted in IEC61850. Due to adopting the technology of object-oriented modeling, the management and extending of functions in substation automation systems will be more flexible and convenient; the requirement of rapid development of modern power system is satisfied. And the most important thing is that the major aim of IEC61850, interoperability, is realized. ②Due to adopting abstract communication service interface and specific communication service mapping, the application and communication is decoupled, the cycle life of the application is prolonged. So the latest communication technology can be used timely in substation automation systems. ③Through the realization of the information model by Java 2,the feasibility of the modeling according IEC61850 is proved. So the interoperability can be realized. ④Through the research of IEC61850, the idea of requiring resource and providing resource is presented. By using the idea, developer can predigest the demand analysis greatly and develop systems independently. Moreover, the system will be open and transplantable, and the reliability of systems will be enhanced.
