The Vehicle Route Guidance System is a kernel subsystem of Advanced Traveler Information System and one of important research content of Intelligent Transportation System. VRGS can guide traffic flow by providing the travelers with optimal route based on real-time traffic information. As a result, the operation of road network will be improved and the traffic congestion will be reduced. Meanwhile, the traffic safety level will be enhanced and the environmental pollution will be alleviated. This thesis first reviews the development of Vehicle Route Guidance System at home and abroad. Based on this, some key problems in the field of VRGS are pointed out. Secondly, after analyzing the information affecting drivers'route choice behavior, this thesis constructs a route choice model under the influence of traffic information. Based on this, this thesis utilizes the stochastic network mixed stochastic user equilibrium modeling approach to study the determination of market penetration and compliance rate of guidance system by dividing the drivers colony into three classes. A heuristic algorithm is proposed to obtain the market penetration and compliance rate at one time. This thesis also discusses the route optimization problem with the determined guided vehicle proportion. By means of constructing dual network, the connectivity of road network is completely described. On the basis of obtaining reasonable short term traffic flow prediction and link travel time, this thesis presents the recommending algorithms fitting for the route optimization of Vehicle Route Guidance System. Finally, this thesis uses the theories and ways of system engineering to analyze the need about the coordination of route guidance system,urban traffic control system and congestion pricing. The conceptual coordination model of route guidance and traffic control,route guidance and congestion pricing are established. At the same time, this thesis briefly studies the integrative traffic demand management approach of "guide-control-pricing".
