Based on the research findings, a new way to confirm the rock mass mechanical parameters is presented. This way is more adapted for weak rocks of red layer. The main results and conclusions can be expressed as follows:1 The key mechanical parameters of rock mass and their range needed for slope stability analysis are summarized. The sensitivity of thesel parameters to slope stability is obtained. The formulas, influence graphs and sensitivity sequence of mechanical parameters are presented.2. Because of the random and fuzzy characteristics of rock parameters, The random-fuzzy method is intrduced in the paper to analyze the rock mechanical parameters. The results show that the random-fuzzy method is more realistic and reliable than conventional methods.3. In the numerical analysis of slope stability, Hoek-Brown method is suggested to confirm rock mass mechanical parameters. The experience formulas to compute GSI and the Young's modulus of rock mass with BQ are established. The auther also put forth a way which consider the rock mass classification and the makeup of slope to confirm the rock mass's mechanical parameters.4. During the process of limit equilibrium analysis, we use the software to search the position of slide surfaces. The Barton formula is introduced to confirm the shear strengths of interfaces. A new parameter is putted forward to express the wave of interface which make the confirmation of JRC more accurate. Some examples are offered to explain and verify these methods.
