Three representational Codes for Design of Steel Structures home and abroad were chosen,including (1) Chinese GB 50017-2003 《Code for Design of Steel Structures》 ; (2) American LRFD-2001 《Loads and Resistance Factor Design Specification for Structural Steel Buildings》 ;(3) EC3 —1993 Eurocode3:Design of steel structures, deeply calculated analyzed and compared the three codes from the following aspects:(1) From the aspects of general design regulation, limit states design method and so on, compare and analysis were carried on the LRFD-2001, EC3 —1993 and GB 50017-2003. furthermore many valuable suggestion about revise of our country's steel structures design code has been given through comparing GB 50017-2003 with GBJ 17-88.(2) Using the two methods of comprehensive safety factor and reliability, from the limit states of load-carrying capacity and stability, calculated analyzed and compared the setting-lever of the safety degree of several basic elements of the GB 50017-2003,LRFD-2001 and EC3-1993 codes, including axial tension, axial compression, beam for bending, eccentricity compression etc. Basically make the three codes setting-lever of the safety degree clear, the specific data was got, which can give reference to revise our country's code for design of steel structures in the future.The result of calculation as follows:The safety setting-lever of the grade I component of GB 50017-2003 is not lower than that of the foreign. When the load combination was controlled by the permanent load, The safety setting-lever of the grade I component is widely higher than that of LRFD-2001 code, furthermore, expect the safety setting-lever of beam's overall stability, eccentricity compression out-plane stability, eccentrically compress in-plane stability are close to that of EC3-1993 code, the else component's safety setting-lever are higher than that of EC3-1993 code too. When the load combination was controlled by the variable load, The safety setting-lever of the grade I component of GB 50017-2003 is basically suitable.When the load combination was controlled by the permanent load, The safety setting-lever of the grade II component of GB 50017-2003 is basically suitable. When the load combination was controlled by the variable load, there is a bigger gap between the safety setting-lever of the grade II component and that of foreign, advise that should advance The safety setting-lever of the grade II component, when revise the steel structural code the next time.
