The optimal operation of hydropower station is one of the most important problems of the whole electric power system. This paper tried to solve the two sub-problems, the optimal load allocation of the hydropower station and the long-term economical operation of the reservoir. There have been several ways to solve the load allocation problem, such as equal incremental equations method, non-linear programming and dynamic programming. But each method has its own limits. Equal incremental equations method is complicated when there are many units with different characters; non-linear programming needs to get functions of the curves, so the result is hard to work out. Dynamic programming is a mature method in theory and is widely used, but too many dispersed dots (which make precision higher) and too many units will take too much computer memory, which lead to the "dimension disaster". This paper used a multi-algorithm scheme, which base on DP and new algorithms (DP with successive approximation method and genetic algorithm). According to the characteristic of each algorithm and the actual needs in the operation, if precision is preferred, DP will be selected to carry out the procedure; if efficiency is preferred, the new algorithm will be run. This efficiency& precision selection rule is proved to be efficient. What's more, the paper gave the introduction and research of the two new algorithms, DP with successive approximation method and genetic algorithm. The paper used a decimal coding GA to carry out the long-term economical operation of the reservoir. Saving the best individual and local search strategies are accepted to make the algorithm converge faster. The target value control and precision control were introduced in the algorithm creatively. It developed the merits of GA and was proved to be efficient. In the Huazhong Hydropower Optimal Schedule System project, some of the new algorithms above were achieved. Exemplified by the optimal operation of the reservoir, this paper used Object Pascal language to realize GA, In the same time, the flows and notices of GA operators were given out.
