China is situated in the middle of the Circum-Pacific seismic zone and the Mediterranean Sea—Southern Asia seismic zone, it's a country happening many earthquakes. The seismic design of buildings has always been paid much attention by all the society. The base isolation technique is a new approach building seismic technique in the past twenty years. The traditional building mainly depends on the structures itself to resist the earthquake. However, the base-isolation building utilizes the isolation equipments to absorb the earthquake energy through transferring the swing of building induced by the earthquake to the translational displacement of building relative to the ground. By a great deal of engineering practice, the base-isolation technique has been regarded as an effective seismic means.The main characteristic of isolation building is not only to ensure the safety of structure, but also to ensure the normal using function of building after earthquake. As a specialist in the structural design, the isolation building is not a new thing. At the present, the design technique of base-isolation building is still emphasized particularly on the side of structural design, therefore, on the side of architecture; the documents of this kind of technique are still scarce. For the architectural designer, making full understand the performance of the isolation building (including the principle of isolation, the change of building performance before and after isolation and how to ensure the using function of building), it's beneficial to the rational design the isolation building safely and the extension of this kind of architectural form.Based on the above viewpoint, the development history, the research situation and the principle of the isolation architectural technique has been specified in the thesis. Referring to the corresponding design experience in our country and outside, the space constitute, the layout design, the constitution form for adapting the deformation induced by the earthquake and the configuration of pipelines of isolation building have been investigated here. In the next, the practical application condition of isolation technique has also been demonstrated by some typical cases.At last, some existing problems including the strict quality control of the isolation bearing manufacture, the design rationality of isolation structure and the corresponding specification supplement of design , construction , check and maintenance for isolation building have been putted forward and the future development tendency of this building form also has been prospected.
