In the shied tunnel , joints of the segment play an important role , a detailed study on the joint in the shield tunnel was implored in this thesis .First, different forms of joints which are widely used are listed , the new forms around the world are also introduced, and the factors which would infect the stiffness of the joint are analysed too;then all of their characteristics, such as their applicable environment , force-conveying ability , contribution to the control of the distortion and their workability in construction are all investigated in more details . Their comparison shows some key suggestions to choose a form of joint presented .Then , the finite element method is used to analysis the behavior of common joints , its characteristics under different load combination and its deformation process are investigated.After that, to know how joints perform in the deformation of a segment ring , a model test was conducted , the behavior of the ring under concentrated load with different linking stiffness were studied and compared with the theoretical results .Finally , with some convergence data of shield tuunel, the stiffness efficiency ratio and the stiffness of the joint were analysed reversely , reasonable conclusions were got.
