Transverse flux motor is a kind of motor with new structure appeared in recentyears. Due to its high torque density and high power density, much attention has beenfocused on it. But in China, the research of transverse flux motor is still in thebeginning process.The research of this paper is about the transverse flux permanent magnetsynchronous motor that is part of the national 863 program entitled "design andintegration techniques of new types of permanent magnet motors"(research code: 2 00 2 A A 3 2 4 0 2 0). The aim of this paper is to bring the advantage of high torquedensity and high power density into full play and overcome the disadvantage of lowpower factor. Analyze and calculate the magnetic field of the transverse fluxpermanent magnet synchronous motor. Try to find out the reason of low power factorand bring forward the suggestion and corresponding method of improvement. Basedon the above analysis a sample motor is made to testify the theory achievement tryingto get better performance and technique target with some of which keep ahead in theworld.The characteristics and working theory are introduced in this paper and manystructures of transverse flux permanent magnet motors are presented according todifferent kinds of sorting methods. Because of the complexity and large work of 3Dmagnetic field finite element method, 2D finite element method is adopted tocalculate traditional motors. Owing to its special structure, the transverse flux motorcan't adopt the traditional method. So in this paper model of the sample motor is setup in use of ANSYS and its magnetic field is analyzed with 3D finite element method.Based on the magnetic field calculation some parameters of the sample motor such aselectromotive force with no load, leakage coefficient with no load and magnetictorque are calculated and influence on the parameters that is caused by the change ofthe structure of the sample motor is also discussed. Power factor is specially analyzedin this paper and the reason of low power factor is find out. Suggestion andcorresponding method of improvement is put forward. Theory research, designanalysis and application of transverse flux motors are discussed in this paper.Simulation of the sample motor performance is done in use of the magnetic fieldcalculation result, avoiding the errors caused by equivalent magnetic circuit method.Finally validate and perfect the analysis method through comparison with the samplemotor testing result, establishing the foundation for making sample motors with betterperformances.
