Structure optimal design, which is based on modern mathematical andmechanical theory, numerical method and computer technology, makes a study ofstructural design optimization and automatization. Compared with routine structuraldesign, optimum structural design means to make structural design schemerationalization, scientific and satisfactory and to make structure arrival at safe andeconomical aim. Therefore, the application of optimization techniques to structuraldesign will become popular step by step. It is no doubt that application research andsoftware development of optimum design for structures is able to create high practicalvalue and greatly economic efficiency.With the rapid development of modern CAE technology, the application range ofoptimization techniques of CAE software is expanding continuously. As theauthoritative software of CAE domain, ANSYS is applied widely. Its designoptimization module possesses powerful functions and is fit for advancedoptimization analysis. Moreover, it also provides user with many applied instrumentsfor the sake of secondly development. In this dissertation, ANSYS is secondlydeveloped and a program of optimum analysis for steel frame is developed by usingANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) and Visual Basic 6.0 programmesoftware. The program packages up ANSYS in the background via favorable userinterface. It can generate the model file of ANSYS and call ANSYS and its designoptimization module to compute automatically, then provides a powerful designimplement for engineering application.In the last part of the thesis, To take a electric dust cleaner's body steel framestructure as an example, it shows that, the program works well and the optimalefficiency of the structure is satisfactory.
