The Automatic Clearance Adjusting Device (ACAD) is an important part in baric disc brakes on heavy duty trucks. This article mainly analyses the structure of the ACAD. Base on the analysis, there comes out the operating principle of the ACAD and the design for the major components. The work is particularly on the design and calculation for the ACAD:1. Design and calculation of the spring. The design of the ACAD should assured that the impaction spring must put on enough press on the gasket, the friction annulus, the clutch spring and the regulation annulus. On it's working, the impaction spring will move forward with the friction patch to the brake disk. The impaction spring must have enough angular rigidity, and the principle of the angular rigidity and the calculation formula of its geometry dimension is given in the paper.2. Design and calculation of the rectangle spring. This spring is a key part for ensuring normal operating of ACAD. Stress and beforehand close quantum of rectangle spring is educed by some conclusions of mechanics of materials and compute formula.3. Design and calculation of the regulation annulus. During the movement of the regulation annulus, it turns whirligig of the regulations arm into whirligig of the spindle, and change the whirling direction. The placket size decides the displacement of the regulation arm when the clearance adjusting beginning. And the way to calculate the placket size is given in the part related.4. The function design of the spindle. The spindle is the initiative regulation part of the clearance adjusting device and the part that transfer the brake force. To achieve its function, much work has done on the analysis of its intension and surface disposal, and resolves the restriction problem well.5. Design and calculation of the handspike. Its main function is to transfer the brake force of the spindle to the friction annulus. It must ensure enough intension to transfer the thrust. Here, much work has done on the calculation of it.This article introduces VPT (Virtual Prototyping Technology) and it is abroad used in the manufacturing, and ADAMS is very good virtual software. Finally,author use ADAMS software has established mechanism system using parts were sculpted in the Pro/E software environment, and has realized movement simulation of ACAD in the ADAMS software environment.
