With the economic globalization and the sustained growth of logistics the port operation is becoming larger, heavier and faster accordingly, which made a new demand for the management of operation devices. As a frame of port machinery, metal structure is enduring the weight of transmission mechanism itself and other load. Metal structure's working condition relates directly to the whole machine's operation performance, safety and reliability. Malfunctions could cause great direct and indirect loss. Nowadays, examines for metal structure malfunction of port machinery are commonly conducted by experimenters. They regularly bring instrument to the locale of port machinery which work in a very complex condition, then process the data. The task is complicated, dangerous and it fails to help reducing the time of examine and repair and enhancing efficiency. Thus it is necessary to find out a reasonable approach for this subject.Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis, which are now applied in various fields, have acquired exciting achievements in speed and scale of development since 1960s except for port machinery, a kind special devices for port operation.So the research of on-line monitoring for the stress in port machinery structure.The paper based on the characteristics of metal structure, combined with the working condition of port machinery, used modern machinery testing and experiment technology as the research method, and employed traditional Strain Gauge Electric Metering technique, DLL programming technique and Windows' MFC interface of Microsoft to study online monitor of the stress of port machinery structure. It also brought forward a scheme for online monitor system of port machinery structure stress and introduced hardware component and software structure thoroughly.This paper has four parts. The first part introduced port machinery and the metal structure of port machinery, and analyzed the load weight of metal structure, the usual failure forms and the reasons which caused the failures. The second part mainly about the Strain Gauge Electric Metering technique, and analyzed the principle and method of Strain Gauge Electric Metering. The third part introduced the hardware part ofonline monitor system of port machinery structure stress, analyzed sensor unit, acquisition unit, and control unit of this system, and mainly discussed the waterproof protection for resistance strain wafer and scheme of data acquisition and transmission of dynamic strain gauge. The fourth part introduced software part of the system, including data acquisition by calling DLL and data display and processing developed with Visual C++.The researches of this thesis have provided some good references for the on-line monitoring of port machinery.
