The handling stability is one of the vehicle's movement performances. It not only has an effect upon the vehicle's handling convenience, but also is a crucial factor for the high speed auto's safety and is called "the lifeline of the vehicle at high speed". With the demand for the high performance, the vehicle handling stability is regarded highly and becomes one of the main performances in the latest auto use;at the same time, traditional calculation method can not satisfied the modern auto research on the analysis of the varied performances. The virtual simulation software increases greatly and it is possible to do the vehicle simulation trial. The paper's main content is just about the research of vehicle handling stability based on ADAMS.This paper summarizes the development stage and present status of vehicle handling satability. The thesis classifies the estimation methods from different aspects. Then, the key modules and the abstract foundation of ADAMS are introduced that will be used in the following chapters. These theories are the base of the subsequent model building and simulation analysis.The course of building the van's 1/2 front suspension is explained. The key parameters are tested during the simulation trial. The change curves of kingpin inclination, caster, camber and the toe angle are measured when the wheel is up and down. And then the sideways displacement is optimized. As a result, the value of the sideways displacement decreases greatly and tire's wear and tear reduces.When building the vehicle model, the model is simplified firstly and then the rear suspension, the steering system, the tire and road model , the outline model are added based on the front suspension. Whereafter, the simulation model is debugged and the vehicle handling stability simulation is achieved successfully. The vehicle steering character is analyzed. Several factors that influence the handling stability character is discussed. The approach of building the vehicle handling stability dynamics model from the academic analysis to the practical model building and the test method are predominated via the study. It will be the theoretical and practical foundation for later work and research.
