On the basis of the multi-body system dynamics theory, taking a parallel-serieshybrid electric bus as the investigation subject, using ADAMS/Car module,Multi-body dynamics model of full vehicle is built, in addition, a series of simulations,analysis and studies on independent front suspension and handling stability of vehicleare completed.First of all, according to structure arrangement of the hybrid electric bus chassis,the effect of mass parameters variation to the hybrid electric bus is studied, and thesteady state response and transient response are also analyzed. The template includingfront and rear suspension, front and rear tire, steering system, body system, powersystem and braking system of main structures of the hybrid electric bus are set up byuse of ADAMS/Car, then the corresponding subsystems are established andassembled themselves into the virtual prototype model.Second, through the parallel wheel travel test, the change rule of the main wheelalignment parameters along with wheels beating stroke about motion characteristics isanalyzed, at the same time, according to the national standard requirements, thecorresponding simulation control files are made, and the full vehicle model has beencarried out simulation tests on handling stability including steady cornering test,cornering with steer release test, step steer test, ramp steer test, snake test and steeringportability test. It is proved that the hybrid electric bus has better handling stability byanalyzing test results while individual parameters such as the response time of yawrate should be further optimized and adjusted. And then an objective evaluation aboutthe overall vehicle performance is given.Finally, taking step steer test in the handling stability simulation as example, theinfluences of such parameters as the height of mass center, the front and rear positionof mass center, front and rear wheel rate, the stiffness of suspension and the load ofvehicle on handling stability of the hybrid electric bus are analyzed, which comes tosome guiding conclusions on the chassis structure arrangement of hybrid electric bus. And it has a certain practical reference value for later design improvements of the realvehicle.This research on handling stability of hybrid electric bus will provide valuablereference and a certain theoretical guidance for bus enterprise product design andsome real vehicle development.
