Electromagnetically induced acoustic emission technique (EM AE) is a recently developed non-destructive test technique (NDT), which can be used for damage assessment of thin walled conducting structures. This technique allows a structure to be loaded locally by applying an electromagnetic field in order to produce an AE response, which may be captured by conventional AE sensors. As a new technique, much work is needed to theoretically study its principle and application. Because there are many nonlinear problems in EM AE, and the electromagnetic-structure coupling field problem is very complicated, traditional analytic method cannot get a comprehensive solution to these problems. In this paper, finite element analysis of EM AE is presented. In additional, we introduce the electromagnetic modulation into EM AE, so as to improve the reality feasibility of EM AE. Finally we do the predesign of the EM AE experimental system.
