The selection of hydraulic turbines for a power station and the same kind of product designs depend on the performance curves of a turbine model. The curves are provided in graphs. During of the optimum design of a power station, various kinds of characters in the graphs need to be expressed in mathematic methods so as to design automatically. At present, they are read out by human and input into computer so that we have a great deal of work to do and errors are often let to. It is difficult to be satisfied for modern designs.In this paper, integrative process of computer for the characteristic curves of the hydraulic turbine is proposed. The characteristic parameters in graphs are automatically gotten by the clicking of a mouse. The data of the performance curves of a turbine model is collected and stored as quickly and accurately as an expensive digitizer. The characteristic curves of the hydraulic turbine are fitted by the method of cubic-polishing spline with sampling sequence number. It has good approximation and accommodate to large-space points. When fitting operating characteristic curves, it can avoid the error that the arch height of curves is sometimes too high when the curves are fitted by least square method.A software with wide practicability and friendly interface is exploited by the powerful Program developing tool Visual Basic 6.0 and ACCESS. With ADOX which is an extension to the ADO objects and programming model, corresponding data sheet can be automatically generated for the new performance curves of a turbine model. So it can quickly deal with large number of supplied performance curves for model turbines to meet the need of modern design.With the drawing functions of Visual Basic, the graphic processing of hydraulic turbines is automatically generated without any third-party software such as AutoCAD.
