Transportation system is a complicated one with serious non-linearity, strong randomicity, large time varying characteristics and uncertainties. The construction of transport infrastructures such as roads and highways can't meet the need of rapidly growing traffic flows, so reasonable traffic organization and management are needed. Traffic control is a practicable solution for urban traffic management, studies of which have application background as well as research meanings. After referring to the major researches on the signal control in intersections in home and overseas, the dissertation proposes an effective way for the evaluation of signal phases in intersections concerning the domestic actuality of mixed traffic flow, develops a technique for arterial coordination optimizations, and further, designs a constructive structure for the urban traffic guidance system. The major work and corresponding results achieved in this dissertation can be summarized as follows:a) Gives a comprehensive evaluation approach of signal phases concerning the domestic actuality of mixed traffic flow. Based on current researches on modeling techniques of vehicles, and combined with careful observation for the movement characteristics of no-motor vehicles and pedestrians, simulation models for vehicles, no-motor vehicles and pedestrians in intersections are proposed respectively. And comprehensive evaluation indexes of signal phases are designed as well.b) Design a data structure describing all kinds of intersections, with its corresponding matrix algorithms implemented in computer effectively. And a program for comprehensive evaluation of signal phases has been realized. The program, when combined with the signal phase optimization program developed by coworkers, is able to find the optimal signal phases for intersections.c) Study ways of the arterial coordination control. Based on the microscopicsimulation techniques using a modified cellular automata model, the parameter variation laws of the platoon dispersion model are studied. Thus in practice of the arterial coordination optimization, the parameters of platoon dispersion model can be adjusted according to the length of road and the density of vehicles.d) Study the active traffic control mode: the traffic guidance. The constructive structure of the traffic guidance is proposed, two crucial modules of which, the traffic flow prediction model and the optimal path-finding algorithm, are carefully designed and implemented.
