The leakage of water supply network is becoming more and more serious in Tianjin, which causes large amount of water to run off. It is believed that most part of this waste is from the pipe bursts. As the management of water supply network is an important factor that has large influence on pipe bursts, it is necessary to establish a database system to improve the management and maintainance of the network.The database system on pipe bursts in Tianjin is a typical MIS. The whole system is made up of the invisible database and the visible application program. The former should consist of a number of data which is unanimous, complete and safe and the latter should has complete functions and be convenient for use. Therefore, Visual Basic 6.0, SQL and the development technology of objects and ADO have been chosen to establish this system.The system is including five parts of user enrollment, database establishment, database operation, database inquery and figure analysis. It not only has the function of data input, output, modification and memory, but also has the function of database establishment and data inquery and analysis. Moreover, it can list out different item conditions with the different corresponding databases and finish data inquery under compound conditions. Thus, this system is of high general utilization and practical utilization.This paper is mainly about the fuctions and design of the system, including database establishment, data operation, inquery and analysis, on the basis of requirement analysis, fuction analysis and database analysis. All the data used in the system is come from the records of pipe bursts in Tianjin, dating from July, 2001 toMarch, 2005. By using these data the system can classify the data and find out the demanded data for users. Meanwhile, it can also generate different kinds of paragraphs and tables in order to supply much more useful and obvious information. Therefore, this system is an effective tool for the improvement of water supply network.
