As the power system level increasing, the fault current becomes too large for thecurrent breaker to operate correctly. To solve this problem, Fault Current Limiter(FCL) was proposed . The Institute of Electrical Engineering of Chinese Academy ofSciences has done a lot of research on High Temperature Superconductor FCL(HTSFCL), and obtained many achievements in the area. With deep research onSFCL, the matching problem between SFCL and relay protection in power systemcurrently needs to be solved. In this paper, we completed the work of researching and manufacturing the newbridge topology HTSFCL firstly. It mainly is consisted of Faults Generation devicewhich fault type and time can be configurable, Data Acquisition device whichreceive the important signals of HTSFCL, and Controller device which can be used toprocess the signal ,control and drive IGBT, set the gate value of IGBT's action.Secondly, with the analysis of the characteristics of HTSFCL's impedance, theHTSFCL was set in power system dynamic simulation lab in China Electric PowerResearch Institute(CEPRI) to research the influence to distance relay protectionbrought by HTSFCL.At last, in theory, this paper analyzes the influence that bridge-type SFCL bringsto the distance and zero sequence relay protection which is used widely in highvoltage power system. And considering the characteristics of microcomputer-basedprotection, this paper proposes a new algorithm to eliminate the influence. Simulationwas made by EMTDC/PSCAD, which showed that the algorithm is valid. Thus thispaper provides a new idea to solve the matching problem between SFCL and distancerelay protection.
