As one of the virtual product developing methods, Virtual prototype reality design (VPRD) is a new technique developed recently. It mainly studies the problems of product modeling , integration product and process design based on simulation under virtual environment. As a new product development mode, it combines the virtual manufacturing philosophy, systematic engineering method,modeling simulation technology and intelligent decision with the support tools systematically based on the customers'requirements. It offers integrated development environment for the life-circle product design and decision, so as to design the perfect products rapidly and effectively. Supported by natural science foundation of State and Henan province, taking instrument product as a research object, modeling and applied technology are discussed systematically and frame model is established based on the VPRD architecture of instrument product established on the basis of analyzing the product design process,virtual working process and virtual using process. What is emphasized in the paper is VOC fuzzy cluster analysis technique, the parametric design of instrument product modeling on VPRD and CAE evaluation of product design in virtual using process. At the same time instrument product modeling design prototype system on VPRD is developed and techniques integration of VOC, CAD and CAE is achieved. Main researches are as follows: 1. Research on the frame model of instrument product modeling o n VPRD. Based on the VPRD architecture of instrument product and three core modules of architecture, the research of instrument product modeling design in virtual using process module is emphasized and its frame model on VPRD is established. 2. The research o n fuzzy cluster analysis technique (Fuzzy c-Means) of instrument modeling VOC analysis tool. In the paper system structure of VOC analysis tool is introduced and fuzzy c-Means cluster analytical method is applied into VOC reports analysis to offer instrument-modeling base for designers. The validity of this model is proven by the application example. 3. The research on the instrument product modeling based on VPRD. 3D parametric modeling is emphasized in the paper. According to customers'requirements, instrument product modeling is designed by searching for 3D modeling graphical libraries and 3D parametric design of instrument modeling. 4. The research on finite element analysis evaluation and decision of instrument modeling scheme. The paper combines CAE with CAD to realize modeling design and analysis integration in order to predict product performance index before finalizing the design and put ting into production and ensure the rationality and reliability of design. 5. Instrument product modeling design prototype system based on VPRD is developed. According to the customers'requirements, instrument product modeling design is accomplished by analyzing and evaluating product design scheme with CAE.
