Cavitation and vibration of the reversed tainter valve culvert of a high-lift shiplock is key technique problem of shiplock engineering success or failure. During the valve-opening, negative pressure and high velocity as well as their intense fluctuations in space and time could result in cavitation, valve vibration and sonic boom in the reversed tainter valve culvert. But these harmful phenomena are closely related to the variety of flow pattern behind the reversed tainter valve. Therefore, the analysis of flow pattern and variety regulations of unsteady separated flow behind the reversed tainter valve is of great importance to theoretical study and engineering design.The partial physical model of the reversed tainter valve culvert and open channel ridge has been established. By using particle image velocimetry(PIV) the flow pattern and flow frame of open channel ridge were measured. Based on this test, more detailed research of the flow pattern and flow frame and flow field in different valve opening were made. The recirculation zone length, contraction coefficient and vorticity as well as the variety of main flow and the intense fluctuation of recirculation zone and contraction coefficient were studied. The results indicated: Adopting the synchronous measure method of high distinguishing two-CCD for the very first time, the details of the flow field which is behind reversed tainter valve were acquired; the biggest value of the recirculation zone length of flow behind reversed tainter valve was attained, then with opening degree increases the recirculation zone length reduces gradually; the contraction coefficient of different valve opening were found out directly; by analysing measured field of vorticity, we knew to have the stronger pulsation phenomenon at adhesion point. With increasing of the valve opening the range of the recirculation zone length and the contraction coefficient was reduced continuously; With increasing of Re the open channel ridge recirculationzone length (L_r) was increased continuously.This paper puts forward the theories support to the research of cavitationmechanism, preventing cavitation, valve vibration and sonic boom, to venting and the setting of vale for examine and repair. At the same time the data, which use PIV to measure the flow field and flow frame directly at the domestic and international research, has not be found out. So the paper can also offer consults to numerical computing and theoretical research to the flow of the reversed tainter vale of navigation shiplock.
