Arch dam is one kind of contour complex space shell structure. In arch dam computation and analysis, the authors are primarily concerned with the Trial-load Method and the Finite Element Method. In our country, the present standard stipulates " the Trial-load Method " as the main standard to take the weight intensity security. The middle or minute designing departments in Mingbei generally use the computation software "GADAP" authored by Beijing courtyard to calculate the stress of arch dam. Using GADAP to calculate the dam's stress in Longjiang hydropower station is typical of the middle or minute designing departments and has the certain reference value.This paper comprehends the Trial-load Method by learning basic theory and assumptions of Trial-load Method, arrangement of arch and cantilever systems, load classification and application, computation of arch and cantilever deformation , fundamental equations setup , stress computation. With the software of the Trial-load Method, a comparison has been made between the single-centered arch dam and the two-centered arch dam of Longjiang hydropower station. Some knowledge has been obtained on designing the width valley's non-symmetrical arch dam. It is suggested that the middle or minute designing departments use the two-centered arch to design width valley's non-symmetrical arch dam because it has good economic efficiency.The optimized design of the arch dam of Longjiang hydropower station changes two-centered arch to the parabolic arch with software ADAO.
