Since 1998, reservoir reinforcement has been the focus work of water conservancy project, one reason originals in high incidence of dangerous reservoirs in our country, the other for reason of operation economic benefits such as how to heighten and scale reservoir based on the security situation. In this paper, based on the background of Zhongliping Arch Dam heightening project,the calculated analysis of stress and satbility of dam body were done for the design proposal for of dam body heignten 4.0m, and the feasibility of heighten scheme was study systematically at the angle of structure safty.The main content as follows:(1) The Zhongliping Arch Dam was divided into 7 archs and 13 beams based on the meathod of arched grider load sharing, and inner stress, strain and deformation of dam body after heightened 4 meters were studied systematically considering the three kinds of combination conditions (normal water level+temperature drop;design water level+ temperature rise;checked water level+temperature rise);(2) Based on limit equilibrium method, the stability against sliding of left-right arch abutment was analyzed of Zhongliping Arch Dam heightening project considering the three kinds of combination conditions (normal water level+temperature drop;design water level+ temperature rise;checked water level+temperature rise).The results showed:after heightened 4.0m, the principal compressive stresses of the three kinds of combination conditions all satisfy with requirements of the national norms; the pricipal tensile stress of three kinds of combinations conditions are satisfied with the requirements of allow principal tensile stress of 1.20MPa (basic composition) and 1.50MPa (special mix); and the safy factors of stability against sliding of arch left-right sides are both meet the requirments of standard which requires the basic composition≥3.00, the special combination of≥2.50. In conlusion, the integral strength and stability of Zhongliping Arch Dam heightening project are satisfied with the requirements of relevant codes, so the structure is safety.
