In this paper.selected design for the form and the dam site of the fuchuan hydropower station retaining structure.the final selection of the retaining structure is the center circle and single curvature arch dam.and the dam site is near the upstream of Xinhua.The dam material is stone buried concrete.General layout are briefly introduced.and the structural arrangement of the retaining structure and the foundation treatment are described in detail. The arch dam stress analysis is an important part of the arch dam strength design, and the ground deformation modulus influence the dam stress state greatly, and in the design, the dam foundation deformation modulus is often as a range in the geological survey data.so it is difficult to give a specific value. According to a certain value, a specific shape in the design is selected.Generally,the arch dam is safe and reliable in the foundation deformation modulus, but as the construction and operation.the foundation deformation modulus will change.So for this arch dam shape.when the dam foundation deformation modulus changed,it is worth exploring if the arch darr is safe.in this paper.using the Arch and the trial load method to calculate the up and down stream face stress of the arch dam in a varity of foundation deformation modulus.and found when the dam foundation deformation modulus exceeds a certain value.the arch dam destroys because the the tensile stress is too large or compressive stress is too large of the arch dam.For the trial load method.when you use it to calculate the arch dam stress.it brings in some structure mechanics assumption,it can’t consider space curve characteristics accurately, such as gongliang section is equivalent to the rectanguiar.the Vogt formula is rough.these can lead to the calculation results is not very precise when you use the the trial load method to calculate the arch dam stress.so this paper also use linear elastic finite element method for stress analysis,and to compare the result with two methods find that the maximum principal tensile stress value is large, the maximum principal compressive stress value are basically the same.Also find when you use finite element method for analysis, the stress concentration phenomenon is obvious, the stress control index is not clear, the result would change with the elements.
