The twin-screw compressor is the major gas booster in petrochemical industry, whose operation would directly bring affect on safety, dependability and manufacture efficiency of whole department. Once the fault of the compressor happened, it would be possible to lead equipment accident, even the halt of producing process, severely decrease of producing efficiency and large economics loss. In this paper, the research is carried out on fault diagnosis and predict on twin-screw compressor, which is extracted from the project of Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. and Institution of Vibration Engineering of Dalian University of Technology. It is especially important to the maintenance of the equipments and the production in petrochemical industry in our country.Firstly, the paper studies the basic structure, operational principle, status quo and trend of development of twin-screw compressor, and also expatiates the fault diagnosis of twin-screw compressor. Then puts focus on the diagnostic linchpin of the technique of vibration monitoring and related methods of vibration diagnosis.According to the structural features and failure mode of twin-screw compressor, the usual failure mechanism of the sliding bearing is analyses as the pivot. Then do the qualitative analysis of the case under pressure of the rotors. At the end, sum up a method of fault diagnosis for twin-screw compressor.Taking the method as the theoretical base, an analytic module of time and frequency domain is build based on LabVIEW platform, which is the most important part of the fault diagnosis system. This system exerts the traits of VI, which is user defining of the interface and offering the normalized function library. In allusion to the analytic means and the diagnostic points of large-volume unit in petrochemical industry, the module includes the functions of analysis, diagnosis and comparative analysis, which improve the agility, practicability and dependability of the diagnosis on the equipments.Finally, to link up theory with practice, takes the twin-screw compressor using in the styrene plant as the engineering example. The diagnostic conclusion is convinced by the management personnel, and the good effect validates the feasibility and reliability of the fault diagnostic method of twin-screw compressor.
