The podded electric propulsor gives a new development of the electric propulsion. In this paper, the characteristics of electric propulsion is firstly discussed. Then the classification, configuration, advantages, the research and application of concept of podded propulsor are concluded. On the basic of above, it is clear that the analysis of the electric propulsion system is necessary.The electric distribution, control and propulsion system are investigated on the basis of research of electric system. The power distribution is determined and it can be used as the reference of selecting the generator or designing the propeller.Using the propeller design chart and expression of the regressive equations, the regressive numbers for the equation are calculated and applied in the propeller design. For the differences between the podded propulsor and conventional propeller in geometry and other parameters, the propeller performance is different. It is analysed in details. The program for designing the propeller is written and the open water characteristics are calculated. A new idea is proposed to correct the propeller performance influenced by the hub and pod strut. In the last paper of this paper, according with the yan-da train ferry data, the open water propeller efficiency is calculated, and the trial speed is predicted. But the correctional method should be further modified in the future.
